Hi all, I'd like some feedback or opinion on whether an Oddifed mag diff might work for my circumstance. I run on a clay track. The surface varies from very loose clay dirt over hardpacked clay to quite grippy following the watering down of the track. The damp soil lasts a few hours but by the end of the day the traction is very low and the finals need to be run with a very dosile set-up or the car just wants to spin out everywhere.

So traction varies incredibly. I would like to improve acceleration out of corners and reduce some of the diffing-out but I'm worried that I might spend a lot of money on a limited slip diff only to find that the rear end steps-out on the loose corners and the car wants to face the other direction most of the time when traction is low.

Help please. Can anyone describe the driving differences the mag diff makes compared to a standard diff.

Traction on a slippy surface is always a compromise. The mag diff is the only diff that can give the optimum traction on any surface but you must bear in mind that if there's just no grip available, then it can't work magic!.

There's two versions available, on and off road. The off road has a softer wound coil inside designed specificaly for off road use. If you see a second hand one for sale, check which version it is Idea . Appart from the coil system inside, the mag diff also has two friction plates/shims behind the planet gears. These give the option of turning them round so the shim is behind the gear instead of the friction plate thereby eliminating any torque limiting the diff has and just leaving the electric braking to limit diff out. This is a better option in low grip conditions as the coil system on it's own is ultra smooth and progressive.

Ian

Thanks Ian for the detailed description. Really cleared things up for me. Will be trying to set some funds aside for one I think.
Cheers,
Paolo
