Ian, how come the 4WDs (driven by the locals) were so slow?
Do you think it was down to the drivers, set-up or that the track design/surface simply didn't suit the heavier 4WDs?

I think it was a combination of things, the track was very hard with various surfaces including soft dirt, very hard dirt, concrete, concrete flags, rubber/bitumin sheet, plastic netting embedded in the ground and a wood area!  It wasn't easy to find a set-up/tyres that worked on all the surfaces. By the later finals, the track had dug up very badley in places as well!.
The 4x4 cars were mainly Fg's and mcd's and they didn't seem to have any advantages over the 2wd cars at all even though you'd normaly expect them to when the grip isn't ideal
