Hi guys.

Quick question about my clutch being a Pain! Everytime I fit the clutch bell, everything seems fine, put on the gear carrier, everything still seems fine, then when i come to tighten it all up, the clutch grabs the inside of the bell housing, and everytime I try to turn the car over obviously the clutch bell moves, in turn obviously making the rear wheels drive...NOT fun. I have tried every combination that I can think of, washering the gear carrier away from the crank case housing, still nothing. Washering the clutch bell, again nothing.

This may be something that I hope one of you petrol heads has come across before now, if you have please let me know i would be a very happy chappy!

Had a similar problem once on an FG clone. If that's what you own then here's what I found:

On FG's and similar you have spacers between bellhousing and gear carrier. If you use a plastic gear carrier the spacers can pull though the plastic if you use an oversized washer on the outside and tighten the bolts really hard. Effectively what can happen is you reduce the the available space between bellhousing and gear carrier. The washer if you choose to use one between the bolt head and the gear carrier must be the same ID as the bolt thickness so that the gear carrier spacers do not pull though the plastic and reduce the width for the clutch bell to live in. Also worth checking that your using the right spacer on the right bolt. One of the three spacers is shorter on FG's carsons, and the like.
The clear plastic gear cover can also cause the spacers to pull through the plastic gear carrier.. Try taking the cover off if you're using one and placing a washer as described above. It may help.
