This begs the question ,why are you mounting the transponders so close to the engine or pipe then? if it is a problem already, there will be further problems later when it is really warm.
Best to try another mounting position surely? |

Afarid to say Si, I suffered the same fate at the Nene as I witnessed last August at Sweetnap with a few transponders failing to work (PT's and handouts) intermittently and when the hand outs were removed from the cars they were too hot to touch!!
Whilst the max operating temp is 50deg I can say that yesterday the temperature in race control was touching 30deg so combining the heat from the exhaust and the limited ventilation some drivers are using in there shells I am sure we are not too far off!
Could I ask that people mount the transponders horizontal and away from the exhausts and at the lowest safe point on there vehicles. Here are some words from bbk on why issues occur :-

Taking Jims car for example he noticed some of his laps were missing and upon removing the bodyshell the transponder was found to be mounted next to the exhaust and about an inch about the chassis, and it was bl00dy warm.
Whilst the older AMB20 system was more forgiving on transponder position the digital set up is not.
Thanks to Jaco and Derek for there assistance in counting the vehicles when needed. _________________ Regards

yep lesson learnt and i have moved my mount to the other side of the radio tray know. Like Darren said the new digital ones are a bit flaky at high temp's. Our older club AMB's worked fine when mounted there but this was the reel first hot running i have done.

So the transponder doesn`t actually over heat then,it is being overheated by the engine or pipe.Either way, they are very expensive bit of kit, that really needs to be looked after better,i think all cars will have to be scrutineered for this then maybe? |

Si, the net effect is that I think we are reaching the top end limits of the transponders.
I have to say that last season at Sweetnap it was the handouts inthe HT's which was giving me the most problems (just ask Paul fields, I think I counted all his laps manually after about 5 minutes!).
We also experianced a couple of cars with run aways so could drivers also ensure there electrics are fine! Guy's runaway managed to snap one of the Nene's fence posts!
Q, How many drivers lag there pipes? _________________ Regards
